Tip #22: Getting to the Root

Part of living a proactive lifestyle is listening to your body. So often we ignore the signs and symptoms our body is telling us and we just cover them up or ignore them. Getting to the root cause of those signs and symptoms is important.
In Tip #21 Build Up Your Immune System we discovered that our immune system can be depressed or it can become over active. This is when we see allergies, asthma, and autoimmune diseases.
Today let’s focus on how we can dig a little deeper and start supporting the body instead of treating the symptom.
4 Steps to Getting to the Root
Step #1: Write down all your signs and symptoms: Increased inflammation, swelling, fevers, mucous, aches, pains, rashes, headaches, hormonal issues, weight gain, etc. are all signs that your body is not working optimally. Writing down everything will help you and your health professional begin to connect the dots.
Step #2: Get help: Whether you choose a functional medicine medical doctor, naturopathic doctor, chiropractor, wellness coach, etc. is up to you. Having someone else partner with you on your journey to finding the root cause is always a good idea.
Step #3: Testing: Often blood tests, stool samples, urine samples, saliva testing, etc. can help you see the bigger picture of what is going on within the body. Getting the necessary tests is often the next step.
Step #4: Action: Let’s be honest. We often ignore the signs and symptoms because we don’t want to make the changes necessary to take care of the root cause. Often the root cause is a digestive issue, which means changing what we eat. Sometimes the root cause is lack of movement, which means we are going to have to start exercising. Maybe the root cause is an overload of toxic chemicals and we are going to have to change what we are putting on and in our body. Often, the answer is multi-layered and we are going to have to take it step by step, day by day to reach above the wellness line.
Putting It All Together
